My ex-wife, Sarah, and I have been divorced for five years. We share custody of our two kids, Lily (10) and Tom (8). Sarah has always had a taste for the finer things in life, which often caused friction during our marriage. Now, she’s signed the kids up for a summer camp that costs an exorbitant amount of money, calling it an ‘enrichment opportunity’.
She expects me to pay half, but I think it’s ridiculous. The camp offers things like horseback riding, gourmet meals, and private tennis lessons. I believe the kids would be just as happy at a more affordable local camp. I told her I’m willing to pay for a reasonable summer activity, but not her luxury choice.
Now she’s accusing me of being cheap and not caring about our children’s development. AITA for refusing to pay for this extravagant summer camp? I want my kids to have fun, but I also think Sarah is being unreasonable with her expectations. I feel like she’s trying to use our kids as an excuse to live a lavish lifestyle at my expense.
